inov8/Sustainable Interaction Design Competition

Inov8 is launching its second competition!  In participation with Ron Wakkary's Sustainable Interaction Design special topics course (http://sustainableinteractiondesign.wordpress.com), we will be awarding the group with $2000 funding to implement their project. Here are the instructions and rules...

1. Register
First thing you'll need to do is register and login so that you can post, comment, and vote.  You'll need to get your friends to register as well so that they can vote and comment on your posts.  Registration form is HERE

2. Post issues in "Talk"
Here you will state concisely the issue that you will be working with in 250 words or less.  Pictures, diagrams, links and documents can be attached.  You can start posting issues HERE

3. Comment and Vote
This allows you to start a discussion and get feedback from the inov8 community on issues that you have in mind.  Although this won't be counted for the competition, this allows you to gauge the interest of the community on various issues.  View issues to comment on HERE

4. Propose Solution in "Plan"
Deadline: TBD (1 Week after final presentations)
Here you will state concisely the solution you are proposing for an issue in 250 words or less.  Again pictures, diagrams, documents and links can (and should) be attached.  Make sure you link the solution proposal to its respective issue.

5. Discuss and Vote on Solutions
Bring your friends and peers to the site to discuss and vote for your solutions.   Remember that whoever gets the highest number of comments and votes combined will win the competition.  Also we want comments to spur discussion so irrelevant comments may mediated or not counted.

My name is Simon Kwok and my background is in Interaction Design with a BSc from SFU's Interactive Arts and Technology program. Design has always been about solving problems and understanding people and what better to apply this in that social innovation. Upon reading Worldchanging, a book edited by Alex Steffen based on articles written on the blog worldchanging.com, I became aware of the vast range of innovative designs and initiatives that are going on around the world solving social problems. More importantly, I realized how much can be done here at home.

I got involved in inov8 in hopes to use a design process approach and my experience in audience research to help solve some of our communities social and sustainability issues.
